💙 Update on our 8 year old Mason 💙

Unfortunately, this isn’t the news we were hoping for.

Mason’s recent checks have shown that he has high blood pressure and protein in his urine, so he has now been referred urgently to the renal team at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick.

After his BMX accident in March, where he suffered a grade 4 laceration to his left kidney, further testing has shown that more than half of the kidney is no longer there and the function of that kidney has been lost and that part of the kidney is not functioning as it should.

Because of this, Mason will need ongoing specialist care and monitoring. We have also been told that he cannot participate in contact sports and must avoid any impact or injury to his kidney going forward.

At the moment, we are waiting for the renal team to contact us with an appointment and the next steps. The referral has been marked urgent.

We are also waiting for:
🩺 An appointment with the renal team
🩻 A referral for a specialised kidney ultrasound
🩸 Blood tests, which will need to be done at the hospital
💧 Further urine samples
❤️ Heart/blood-pressure monitoring and further investigations

There is a lot happening at the moment, and we are taking everything one step at a time.

I also want to let my clients know that there may be days when I need to reschedule appointments at short notice. Because this is an urgent renal referral and we are waiting for hospital appointments, tests and potentially further investigations, I may not always have much notice.

I’m incredibly sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but Mason has to come first right now. ❤️

💔 Small Business Reality Check 💔

I don’t often post things like this, but I need to be honest.

When a client doesn’t show up for their appointment or cancels at the last minute, it doesn’t just leave an empty spot in my day. It has a real financial impact on my business.

As a small business owner, I still have rent, electricity, insurance, products, equipment costs and staff wages to pay. If my staff and I are sitting here with no pets to groom because of no-shows, I still have to pay my staff for their time, and those costs come directly out of my pocket.

Lately, the number of missed appointments has increased, and it is putting significant financial pressure on my business. Every appointment booked is a time slot that another client could have taken, and once that time has passed, it can’t be recovered.

I absolutely understand that emergencies happen and life gets in the way sometimes. All I ask is that if you cannot make your appointment, please provide as much notice as possible so I can offer that appointment to someone on my waiting list.

Unfortunately, due to the increasing number of no-shows, I have had to make the difficult decision to introduce a booking deposit policy.

🐾 Effective immediately:
• All new clients will be required to pay a $50 deposit to secure an appointment.
• Any existing client who fails to attend an appointment without notice will also be required to pay a $50 deposit before any future bookings can be made.
• Deposits will be deducted from the cost of your grooming appointment.
• Deposits may be forfeited for missed appointments or cancellations made without sufficient notice.

Nic’s Pet Grooms is a small local business, not a large corporation. Every appointment matters, every client matters, and every missed appointment affects our ability to continue providing the service and care we pride ourselves on.

To be completely honest, at the current rate of no-shows, it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep absorbing these losses. I love what I do, I love caring for your pets, and I want to continue serving our community for many years to come. This policy is simply about protecting the future of my business and the livelihoods of my staff.

With the saddest of eyes, I am telling you all, that the Liverpool, Canterbury/Bankstown, and Camden Animal Shelters are overflowing with lost and unwanted dogs. If you're thinking of adopting, all dogs are $50 at the moment, all vet work done, microchipped, and lifetime registered. You can view ,available dogs via each councils Facebook shelter pages.
If you have a lost dog, please call the rangers to take care of it. Please don't just turn up at the shelter.

Our boy has finally come home for a long recovery. With only half a left kidney it will be a while till he builds strength up. More scans are needed in a month. If he starts to get unwell at home we will be back at Campbelltown hospital and will be transported again to Randwick Childrens Hospital.
I sincerely apologise to anyone that I have had to rebook or have delayed in replying with a booking. I am getting through all of my messages today and will fit you all in asap.
A huge appreciation to Charlotte who has still been able to groom most of your pups.
I am so grateful for all of your messages and heartfelt wishes that have made it a little less painful to myself. Thankyou from the bottom of my heart ❤️

An update on our 7 year old.

The lower half of his left kidney is destroyed. He has 2 partially collapsed lungs. Doctors were considering a blood transfusion today due to bloods. Thankfully they will just monitor his bloods for now. Heart rate and oxygen stats have been up and down. He has had a high temperature since Sunday. He also has rhinovirus.
Today he has started to move his arms and legs freely which is amazing. Pain is now under control with meds.

If you have an appointment with me, please know that I am planning on working those days as my son’s father will be with him at the hospital those days.

I would like to say a big heartfelt thank you to all of you that have sent messages and well wishes, it is very much appreciated.
