Hello Community of Winchelsea,

Winchelsea Wildlife Shelter is looking for reliable volunteers to start early to mid-September this year.

The position includes feeding, cleaning, and animal handling.

We are looking for people who can commit to one day or more a week for as long as they can.

Must be over 18. We are also happy to take people who need placement for courses, e.g. animal studies.

If you think this is something you can commit to and are super keen—please send me a message on Facebook with a paragraph on why you think this role would be a good fit for you, and the day of the week you can volunteer.

Usually, we get high volumes of people applying and ideally would pick the people who are most suitable, e.g. local, animal experience, etc.

I’m honestly exhausted watching the disgusting racism directed at Aboriginal people on Sorry Day.

A day meant for truth, reflection, healing and respect somehow becomes another excuse for people to spew hatred, ignorance and cruelty online. It’s heartbreaking, always was, always will be infuriating and deeply disappointing that in 2026 we are STILL seeing people mock pain, deny history and dehumanise First Nations people so casually.

Sorry Day exists because children were stolen. Families were destroyed. Generations carry trauma that many will never understand. Showing basic compassion should not be controversial.

Facebook continues to allow comment sections to become cesspools of racism while Aboriginal people are expected to “educate politely” through abuse and ridicule. Enough.

If acknowledging historical trauma threatens your comfort more than racism threatens Aboriginal lives, maybe it’s time to ask yourself why.

Today I feel angry. Frustrated. Sad. And honestly ashamed of the hatred people are so comfortable displaying publicly.

To my Aboriginal friends and community — I see your hurt, and I stand with you. 🖤💛❤️
