URGENT WARNING – SCAMMERS USING MDBA DETAILS
We are currently seeing a significant increase in scam activity, with people falsely claiming to be MDBA members.
We are now receiving reports daily, and sadly, people are losing substantial amounts of money.
This is heartbreaking — especially when it affects those who can least afford it.
BEFORE YOU SEND ANY MONEY — PLEASE DO THIS:
Verify the breeder directly through the MDBA
Call the phone number we provide you — not the one in the advertisement
Speak to the breeder in person (by phone) before paying anything
Messaging alone is NOT enough.
Excuses for not speaking on the phone are a major red flag.
Do NOT accept reasons such as:
• “I’m out of range”
• “I can’t take calls”
• “I’m hearing impaired”
• “The phone will upset my child”
If they cannot speak with you on a verified number — walk away.
IMPORTANT:
The MDBA does NOT register breeders of:
• Cats
• Ferrets
• Birds
• Reptiles
• Guinea pigs
Anyone claiming MDBA registration for these is not legitimate.
HOW THESE SCAMS WORK:
Scammers often:
• Use stolen or fake MDBA membership details
• Take a deposit
• Then request additional payments for “transport” or other fees
• Disappear once payment is made
MESSAGE TO MDBA MEMBERS:
To help protect the public and your reputation:
Do NOT send your MDBA Member Card digitally
(It is intended for in-person identification only)
Ensure your contact details are current
Check your phone number in your MDBA member profile so buyers can verify you بسهولة.
FINAL WORD
If something doesn’t feel right — trust your instincts.
It is always better to double-check than to lose your money.
If in doubt, contact the MDBA before proceeding.

Canine Seizure & Neurological Episode Survey
MDBA is currently collecting information from breeders and dog owners of all breeds whose dogs have experienced seizures or seizure-like neurological episodes at any point in their lives.
This survey is not focused on any single breed and is not used for compliance, blame, or fault-finding.
Its purpose is to help us look beyond genetics alone and explore potential shared factors such as:
• age of onset
• environment and lifestyle
• diet and supplements
• medications and preventatives
• management strategies and outcomes
By collecting information across many breeds, we can look for common patterns that may otherwise be missed — while avoiding unnecessary concern or stigma being placed on any individual breed.
Privacy & Use of Information
• Participation is voluntary
• Individual dogs, owners, and breeders are not publicly identified
• Data is reviewed in aggregate to support education, research, and improved health guidance
• Information is used to inform future recommendations — not to single out breeders or bloodlines
If your dog has experienced seizures or neurological episodes, your input may be valuable, even if the cause was never confirmed.

Thank you for helping us take a thoughtful, responsible, and whole-of-dog approach to canine health

Why Every Puppy Should Have a Vet Check Within 48 Hours of Going Home.
Responsible breeders know that protecting both their puppies and their reputation begins before a pup ever leaves their care. One of the simplest and most effective safeguards is a veterinary health check within 48 hours of going home — ideally both before and after the puppy changes hands.
1. The breeder’s vet check
Many breeders vaccinate their litters at around six weeks, but a lot can change between that visit and home time at eight to nine weeks. A quick pre-departure vet check ensures each puppy is still healthy and fit to travel. It also provides a dated, professional record showing the puppy was sound at the time of sale — an invaluable layer of protection if a dispute arises later.
Breeders know that their vet checks a puppy at vaccination time and if anything turns up it is duly noted in writing but vets don’t provide any written certification, unless they are specifically asked to do so, that the pup is found to be fit and healthy.
If anything at all is noticed during that visit — even something minor such as a small hernia, a mild malocclusion, or anything else that might be considered “no big deal” — ask the vet to record it in writing. The note should explain what the finding means, and whether it is expected to have any impact on the puppy’s long-term health or quality of life. This protects both you and the puppy buyer by ensuring everyone understands the situation from the start. The forms to give your vet for them to complete at check time are available www.mdba.net.au after you login.
2. The buyer’s vet check
Encourage new owners to take their puppy to their own vet within 48 hours of arrival. This confirms the pup arrived in good condition and allows the buyer to establish a relationship with their chosen clinic early on. It’s also an important mutual safeguard — verifying that the puppy was healthy at handover and that any issues developing later are not the breeder’s responsibility.
3. Avoiding unnecessary conflict
Many breeder–buyer disputes begin with claims that “the puppy was sick from day one.” In reality, some conditions can incubate silently or develop after the pup has gone home. Having both vet checks on record provides clarity and fairness for everyone — protecting the breeder from false claims and ensuring the puppy receives prompt care if needed.
In short
Two quick vet visits — one before the pup leaves, and one after arrival — can prevent heartache, misunderstandings, and unnecessary blame. It’s a small step that delivers big peace of mind for everyone involved.
Best Practice Tip:
Always keep a copy of the vet report with your puppy’s sale paperwork. If anything is noted, even minor, attach the vet’s written comments explaining its significance. Transparency now avoids conflict later.

NSW Breeder Members.
From Friday 30 May 2025, dog breeders across NSW can apply for exemptions to new puppy farming regulations to ensure they comply with changes that will come into effect for existing breeders from 1 December 2025.
In November 2024 changes were made to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1979, and the Companion Animals Act 1998, which apply in stages to all breeders and occupiers of dog premises across NSW.
For a full overview of the changes – see the Department of Primary Industries and Regional development website.https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/animals-and-livestock/animal-welfare/animal-care-and-welfare/other/dogs-and-cats/breeding-a-dog

The NSW Government has implemented several actions to support breeders and occupiers of dog premises across NSW through the legislative transition period.
Applications for an exemption to maximum cap of female adult dogs
The requirement limiting the maximum number of female adult dogs at any dog premises to 20, commenced on 21 November 2024. The new laws allow for breeders that had more than 20 female adult dogs on a premises at 24 October 2024 to keep up to this number until 1 December 2025.
From 1 December 2025 until 30 November 2035 a limited exemption will be available for certain breeders who had more than 20 female adult dogs on 24 October 2024, subject to additional conditions.
Breeders can apply for an exemption online at the Office of Local Government. A $550 fee is payable to process applications.
Applications for an exemption opened on 30 May 2025 and will close on 13 July 2025.
If granted, the exemption period is for 10 years subject to certain conditions. For example, compliance with the Breeding Code, submitting an annual report and an audit every 2 years. https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/animals-and-livestock/animal-welfare/animal-care-and-welfare/other/dogs-and-cats/breeding-a-dog

On 21 November 2024, changes were made to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1979, and the Companion Animals Act 1998 to strengthen puppy and dog welfare across the state by implementing a range of measures to ban puppy farming.

Here we go again - this is a scam and it appears it is now spreading to numerous other countries all done via facebook. If you see it please report it even though it appears facebook doesn't remove it as it 'doesn't breach their community policies.' Two people in the last 24 hours have lost their money with this. Check before you pay.
