My dog Rosie is an older lady at 15 years of age, however mental enrichment is just as important for her as it is for younger dogs and puppies.

Rosie LOVES to sniff so most of her enrichment activities revolve around sniffing. I recently made her a snuffle mat for her dry food meals and she has gotten so much enjoyment.

Snuffle Mats are one of my favourite enrichment items as they are super easy to set up and provide so much mental stimulation. All of that sniffing releases so many calming hormones for our dogs 🐶💕

I have been lucky enough to work with Max and his family since he was a tiny puppy 🐶

Max is now 7 months old and has officially entered the ‘teenager’ phase. During this stage of adolescence puppies may display more exuberance and boisterous behaviours, they may be more easily distracted, find it hard to settle and they may struggle with some previously taught training skills such as recall. Adolescence usually finishes between around 18-24 months of age.

Although this period may be challenging at times, with a bit of persistence and consistency it will all pay off ☺️

Mat training is a really beneficial exercise for dogs of all ages 🐾 The mat represents a safe and comfortable place for your dog to rest and is especially helpful for redirecting and settling overexcited puppies. As mats are portable, you can move them to different areas of the house, bring them to friends houses and even to cafes, offering a familiar area for your dog to settle.

Humphrey was so sleepy after learning all of his new training skills 💤 💙

Did you know that young puppies require 16-20 hours of sleep every day?

It is important that we give puppies many opportunities to rest throughout the day, as an overtired puppy is more likely to be unsettled and express behaviours that we may not appreciate such as excessive mouthing, barking and jumping up 🐾
