Must Watch to the end!

This stunning Coastal Carpet Python had a meal of Possum and made its way into a large outdoor chicken enclosure and perching itself on the window ledge to digest.

Unfortunately for this beautiful snake the chickens had voted to evict, as they didn’t want to be next on the menu…

We found the perfect release spot that held many surprises, which you will find one very cool one at the end of this video!

Bees are essential for global food security and ecosystem health. As nature’s most effective pollinators, they fertilize nearly a third of the food we eat and sustain 80% of the world's flowering plants. Without them, we would lose a vast array of fruits, vegetables, and the crops used to feed livestock

Up here in Queensland it’s the same, all the land clearing and new housing developments, where are all our Beautiful Reptiles meant to live?

Very very sad.

🐍 Why Killing Snakes Makes No Sense (and Might Cost You Big Time)

Snake catchers—and anyone you ask to ID a snake—are usually people with a huge passion for these animals. Honestly, the last thing we want to see is a photo of a snake that’s been deliberately killed. It’s like sending a vet a photo of a dead Labrador and asking, “Hey, what breed was this?” 🤦‍♂️. Imagine doing that with any other animal:
- “I just flattened this kangaroo, can you tell me what species it was?”
- “Shot this cockatoo out of the sky—any idea if it was endangered?”
It’s absurd, and yet snakes cop this treatment far too often.

---

⚖️ The Legal Bite You Didn’t Expect
In Australia, snakes are protected under wildlife laws. Killing or removing a snake without a licence can land you with fines up to $10,000 and even prison time. You’re not just breaking the law—you’re risking a hefty fine and a criminal record.

---

🧪 Scientific & Practical Reasons Not to Kill Snakes
Here’s a heap of reasons why snakes deserve better than a shovel or a boot:

- Rodent control champions: Snakes keep rat and mouse populations in check, protecting crops, food stores, and even reducing disease spread.
- Part of the ecosystem balance: Remove snakes, and you mess with predator-prey dynamics. That can lead to pest explosions.
- Most are harmless: The majority of snakes you’ll encounter aren’t dangerous to humans. Even venomous ones prefer to avoid you.
- They don’t chase you: Despite the myths, snakes aren’t out to hunt humans. They’ll retreat if given space.
- Biodiversity matters: Every species plays a role in Australia’s unique ecosystems. Killing snakes undermines conservation efforts.
- Education opportunity: Spotting a snake is a chance to learn, not to panic.
- Risk to you: Trying to kill a snake is one of the fastest ways to get bitten.
- Legal protection: As mentioned, fines and jail time are real consequences.
- Respect for native wildlife: Snakes are as Australian as kangaroos and kookaburras. Treating them differently is pure bias.
- They’re not pests: Snakes aren’t invading your home out of spite—they’re following food sources or shelter.

🐍 Bottom Line
Snakes aren’t villains—they’re vital, fascinating, and protected. Killing them is not only unnecessary, it’s illegal, dangerous, and ecologically damaging. Next time you see one, remember: observe, respect, and call a licensed snake catcher if needed.

A small snapshot in time captured of a Coastal Carpet Python Release out at Woodford.

What you don’t see here, is the time spent letting the snake readjust into its environment.

This gentle giant stayed with us until she was ready to make her way back into the bush.

A concerned member of the public called in to a rescue group suspecting it might have been run over. I headed out to collect her and after a full health check at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital she was cleared for release and so we took her straight back to where she was found.

I feel so incredibly lucky to get to share a small portion of these moments with you all, so that hopefully you will see, they aren’t the villains they’re made out to be.

A reminder to be mindful while driving and watch out for wildlife cruising across our roads.

This is a stunning Yellow-Faced Whip Snake I got the pleasure of meeting last year.

These guys are considered Mildly Venomous, however, potentially Medically significant.

Some people can have simple localised pain and swelling of the bite site and others can have a full blown anaphylactic response.

Do you have a snake bite bandage, just in case?

Handy Tip:

Wearing gloves while gardening is a great idea for protection against accidental bites, as this is a likely spot these stunning snakes will hang out chasing geckos and skinks.

Goood Morning Elimbah 😍

This cute little Coastal Carpet Python really played it up to the camera on release!

Obviously thought he/she had found the perfect spot to settle in for Winter, with plenty of food and warmth within the shed insulation.. however, this wasn’t suitable long term accommodation and the home owner had seen the little face poking out and gave me a call.

With permission, the insulation had to be cut in order to get him/her out..

FUN FACT!
a defensive tactic for snakes is to p*e on the predator to make it let go.. well it didn’t work for this snake.. I left with the snake AND the delightful snake perfume on my nice clean shirt 🤣
