STUMPY SUNDAY 🐾
TAILS, STUMPS & THE FUTURE OF THE BREED
One of the biggest misconceptions we see is that a naturally bobtailed Australian Cattle Dog = an Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog.
They are NOT the same breed.
The Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog (ASTCD) is its own breed, with its own history, structure, temperament and standard. While natural bobtails are part of the breed’s identity, the breed itself is NOT defined only by whether a dog has a tail.
In fact… ASTCD puppies can be born with FULL TAILS too.
And those tailed dogs are incredibly important to the future of the breed.
Right now, many people specifically want naturally bobtailed puppies, especially for sport and pet homes. We completely understand why. The natural bobtail is unique and eye catching, and honestly, we love them too.
But here’s the problem:
Tailed Stumpies are still REAL Stumpies.
They still carry the breed type, instinct, structure, temperament and genetics that help preserve and strengthen the future of the breed.
A tail does not make them “less than.”
Some of the most important dogs for the survival of this breed may very well be the ones born with tails.
As a community, we want to help change the narrative around tailed ASTCDs. Instead of seeing them as the “leftover” puppy, we want people to recognize them as something special:
a vital part of preserving one of the rarest working breeds in the world.
So tell us below ⬇️
Do you have a tailed Stumpy? A naturally bobtailed Stumpy?
We’d love to see photos and hear your thoughts.
