~Shepherd's Lantern~

In traditional shepherding lore, the white tip on a sheepdog’s tail is said to be “the shepherd’s lantern.” As dusk fell and visibility faded, the bright tip made it easier for shepherds to spot their dogs as they worked the hills. A beacon of loyalty and guidance - to help guide both shepherd and flock in low light.

As soon as I read this about the sheepdog, I knew it would fit perfectly into my current work - atmospheric landscape combined with animals with true meaning behind them. The idea of the sheepdog as a guide is a powerful one, and as anyone with sheep will tell you, sheepdogs are truly valuable and vital team members. The connection with a sheepdog and their farmer is unparalleled.

This is a big painting and I loved creating the blue hues of evening with the emerging stars, and that whimsical style was perfect for the glow of my sheepdog's tail ☺️

Border Collie colours facinate me. So many dilutes and variations are available in the modern Border Collie, as Sean explains this is due to the pet trade. Breeding for colour and other traits can mean that the working traits are lost over time.

I often refer to our Border Collies as 'Tradditional' and sometimes people ask why. My love of collies started over 20 years ago and at the time I was lucky enough to be living in the United Kingdom, home of the Border Collies beginnings.

I've always be drawn to the Old H**p looks, sleek, flat shiny coat, neat arrow shaped head, traditional tri markings, and an intelligent thinking eye.

Beinn, our first breeding dog was Old H**p all over. Traditional in every way 🖤🤎🤍

Mother and Daughter 🖤🤎🤍

Megan, is 12 now. She's been a loyal pet, expert Mum and now she's retired. Enjoying her life indoors, spoilt by the fire, eating treats from the table and teaching our puppies how to behave in the sunshine.

Moss, is 4 and was one of the first pups we bred when we relocated from Oxford in 2019. She is a much loved family pet. So much like her Mum, but her striking colour from her beautiful Dad, Beinn.

This little bunch of cuteness is now 4 weeks old! They are eating solid food and starting to experience the big dogs yard for play and exploration. Super pups!! Ready for new homes 30th April 2025.
