Welcome to Wolfenstein Kennels⦠The following is a little insight into me and my family and how I went from one Dachshund to wanting to learn everything about them. My love for Dachshunds started from the time I first owned a puppy, and it was in 2016 when I moved to Australia that I really wanted to get one. After several days of convincing my husband (Alex) that I was ready for my first puppy, he agreed on one condition - and that was that he would decide on the breed. This was of course a Dachshund (his favourite) and after a fair bit of research, we found Bruno! Bruno was perfect and having him was such a rewarding experience - he really gave us unconditional love.
But I couldnβt help feeling that Bruno was lonely as I too was busy creating a life of my own with my husband and two beautiful children. So, one puppy turned into three because we thought getting a girlfriend for Bruno would be the best idea. Of course, lots of searching found Bella but I also came across a beautiful dapple called Coco. I had never seen such beautiful markings on a dog, and I couldnβt decide on which one, so we had to get both. So, Bella, Coco, and Bruno became a happy family of their own having their own babies. I decided the best thing to do would be to give others the same pleasure I was getting from owning these wonderful dogsβ¦ And thatβs how Wolfenstein Kennels was born.
When I first started, I didnβt even know what Dapple was and was really interested to find out more. I did tons and tons of research and several courses to become a certified breeder. I did courses about genetic patterns on dogβs coats to learn everything about Merle and understand everything there was to learn about the breed. I also did courses about Regulations of Animal Welfare, Code of Practice, Breeding Dogs, Code of Ethics, Genetics & DNA in Animals, Animal First AID, Anatomy of the dog, Construction and Movement in the dog, Canine Nutrition, Dogs and the Law, Mating and Whelping Care, Hereditary Diseases and Schemes to control the incidence of these. All of these courses gave me an in-depth knowledge and appreciation for doing the right thing and this is how I have successfully become a member of the registered breeders of Australia.
It was at this time that we moved house and we made a perfect environment and setup for our family (which the dogs are obviously a part of). We built everything to regulation with the perfect space on our farm for the dogs including an isolation area, a puppy area which includes heating and air-conditioning to keep the temperature at the optimum level (as we have for our adult dogs), as well as a gym with play toys and beds. All puppies are born inside in our nursery which is right next to our family living area so that they all are raised inside with us as a member of the family with close supervision.
All of our puppies are introduced to our children from when they can be safely handled, hence their love for people and their inquisitive nature, wanting to learn and play with different people and animals of all kinds.
