โœจ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽˆ Itโ€™s almost time to celebrate the arrival of a new year, but letโ€™s take a moment to think about how your furry family members will be spending New Yearโ€™s Eve ๐Ÿถ

The bursts of bright light and loud noise in the sky made by fireworks can spook even the bravest of dogs, so even if your pooch doesnโ€™t scare easily, it is best to take precautions to ensure your dog remains happy and safe during the celebrations.

Here are a few things you can do:

๐Ÿ• Keep your dog indoors ๐Ÿฆด Give them access to a safe haven such as a crate with familiar smells. ๐Ÿพ Remove any potentially dangerous objects. โœ‚๏ธ Make sure all doors and gates are closed and secure.

If you canโ€™t be home with your dog leave music or the TV on as a distraction from the noise outside. ๐ŸฆŠ ensure they are microchipped and your details are up to date

IT ONLY TAKES 6 MINUTES FOR A DOG TO DIE IN A HOT CAR ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ’€

Every year, especially when temperatures start to rise, RSPCA NSW receives constant calls about animals that have been left inside locked cars ๐Ÿš—

It doesn't matter whether it's 20 degrees or 40 degrees, whether you have left the windows up or down or have even left a bowl of water inside the car. It takes only minutes for pets to start to suffer the effects of dehydration and heat stroke, both of which can lead to irreversible damage and death.

So this Summer, PLEASE take it seriously and never leave your pets behind ๐Ÿ™

If you see a dog in a hot car, contact RSPCA NSW (1300 278 3589) or NSW police as soon as possible.

The Australian Terrier, one of the first breeds developed in Australia, was bred for its versatility and toughness. Originally used for hunting vermin and snakes, guarding homes, and providing companionship, it holds the distinction of being the first Australian-bred dog recognised in international competitions. Its robust build, weather-resistant coat, and keen instinct made it invaluable to early settlers.

Temperamentally, the Australian Terrier is known for being intelligent, affectionate, and courageous. It is highly adaptable, making it a wonderful family pet and a good watchdog. Despite its small size, it exhibits a spirited personality and strong loyalty to its owners, making it well-suited for both urban and rural living.

This breed's compact size and friendly disposition make it suitable for families with children or individuals seeking an energetic yet manageable companion. However, they thrive best in environments where they receive regular exercise and mental stimulation. With their history of working closely with humans, Australian Terriers are eager to please and respond well to training

Christmas can be a joyful but busy time, and making sure your dog feels safe and happy amidst the festivities is key. Here are some tips for managing family situations with your dog during the holiday season:

1. Create a Safe Space - Set up a quiet area where your dog can retreat if the excitement becomes overwhelming. This could be a separate room with their bed, water, and toys. Ensure guests, especially children, understand not to disturb your dog in this space.
2. Watch out for Holiday Foods - Keep festive foods like chocolate, mince pies, grapes, and alcohol out of reach, as these can be toxic to dogs. Provide dog-friendly treats to involve them safely in the celebrations.
3. Maintain Their Routine - Stick to regular feeding, walking, and sleeping schedules as much as possible. This helps reduce stress and keeps them calm amid changes.
4. Supervise Interactions - Monitor interactions with children and guests, especially those unfamiliar with dogs, to prevent accidental mishandling or overstimulation.
5. Be Cautious with Decorations - Secure Christmas trees and ornaments, keeping fragile or potentially hazardous decorations like tinsel and lights out of reach.
Avoid edible decorations like candy canes, which can entice dogs to investigate.
6. Prepare for Travel - If traveling, ensure your dog is comfortable and safe in the car or arrange for a trusted sitter if they are staying behind.
7. Exercise and Mental Stimulation - Give your dog plenty of exercise and engaging activities, like puzzle toys, to burn off energy and keep them entertained.

By planning ahead and considering your dogโ€™s needs, you can ensure the holiday season is enjoyable for everyone, including your furry friend.

๐Ÿพโ”๐Ÿ’œWas it an easy guess? It was of course, the miniature Bull Terrier.

The Miniature Bull Terrier is a smaller variety of the Bull Terrier, known for its distinctive egg-shaped head and lively personality. Originating in England during the 1800s, the breed came to Australia in the mid-20th century, where it gained popularity in shows and as a companion dog. Early imports and prominent breeders in the 1960s and 70s helped establish its presence and reputation in the country. Today, Australian-bred Miniature Bull Terriers have achieved success internationally, highlighting the breed's growing prominence.

These dogs are compact yet muscular, standing up to 35.5 cm tall, with a variety of coat colours including white, brindle, and red. They are affectionate and mischievous, often referred to as "clowns" for their attention-seeking antics. Despite their playful demeanour, they are courageous, active, and well-suited to disciplined training. Miniature Bull Terriers make excellent companions for active families who can provide plenty of mental and physical stimulation, but they require firm and consistent handling to channel their energy positively.

For more details about the breed, you can visit the DOGS NSW website: www.dogsnsw.org.au
