Why aren’t they concentrated on getting rid of the introduced species, leave our natives alone ! Remember this when you vote people .

Who gets wombats on their property ? The chances of seeing them will be lessened now with the Victoria government issuing 407 permits to kill 4321 wombats across the state for a 12 month period . https://www.vic.gov.au/authorities-control-wildlife-2025

Australia’s wildlife carers stand on the frontline of trauma every single day.
They are the first call when a joey is hit on the roadside, when a bird collapses from heat, when a possum is found injured in a backyard. There is no rostered finish time, no overtime, no pay cheque — just a phone that rings at all hours and a decision to show up, again and again.

Wildlife carers work 24/7 in conditions most never see. They handle heartbreak, loss, exhaustion and uncertainty, often in isolation. They fund the food, the enclosures, the medications and the fuel themselves. They juggle jobs, families and sleep deprivation, all while providing round-the-clock care to animals who depend entirely on them to survive.

This work is physically demanding and emotionally heavy. It is trauma-based care without counselling, emergency response without backup, and conservation without recognition. Yet carers continue — not for applause, not for payment — but because turning away is not an option.

Australia’s wildlife carers are not a hobby group. They are an essential, unpaid emergency service holding together a system that would collapse without them. Their commitment saves lives every day, and their impact reaches far beyond the animals in their care.

They deserve recognition, respect, and support — because without wildlife carers, Australia’s wildlife would not stand a chance.

𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗯𝗲 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗮𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀?

Shark culls. Dingo culls. Maybe we should start government culls of humans, because no species on this planet is more destructive, greedy, or entitled than we are.

We don’t live in harmony with wildlife. We clear land, destroy habitat, and expand endlessly for profit, then act shocked when animals end up in our space. Thousands of native animals are killed across Australia every single day because of human activity. We claim to be intelligent, innovative, and advanced, yet somehow we still struggle to think beyond destruction as our default solution.
Why can’t we use that intelligence to find safer, more sustainable ways to coexist?

Sharks live in the ocean, that’s not a secret. Dingoes live on K’gari. Crocodiles inhabit northern waterways. There are signs, warnings, and public education everywhere, yet people still take risks and then blame the animals when something goes wrong. These people don’t deserve to be injured or killed, but personal responsibility has to exist alongside compassion.

Slow down on the roads at dawn and dusk. Don’t swim at night or during low-light hours. Obey warning signs. Don’t walk or swim alone in known predator zones. Swim between the flags. Stop, look around, and actually assess your environment. We live in one of the most biodiverse countries on Earth and yet we take it completely for granted.

Sharks don’t wander into our living rooms. Yet we feel entitled to take, clear, and destroy everything in their path, then punish them for existing.

Life is more than money, development, and bigger houses. Imagine if every person made just one small change. Took five extra minutes to be aware. Slowed down. Left trees standing. Respected wild spaces.

How many tragedies could be avoided?

Sometimes I wish animals had a voice, because maybe then we’d finally listen.

Victorian residents

Did you know that as of 1 September 2021, if you use netting to protect your household fruit-trees, vegetable gardens, or other fruiting plants, it must have a mesh size of 5mm x 5mm or less at full stretch?

Basically, if you can fit your finger through the netting it will not be compliant.

This is a new mandatory requirement introduced under Victoria’s Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Regulations 2019.

It will reduce the risk of wildlife such as flying foxes, birds and possums from becoming entangled. White netting also makes it easier for nocturnal animals to see and avoid it at night.

Any existing household fruit netting that does not meet this specification must be replaced with appropriate netting before the 1 September 2021 commencement date.

Tree netting protects your fruit from wildlife. Always use wildlife safe netting to minimise the risk of animals being trapped, injured or killed.

This morning, I received an urgent case from Wildlife Victoria regarding three rainbow Lorikeets trapped in netting, suspected to be illegal bird netting. I was attending swimming lessons with my grandchildren when a member of the public contacted me in distress about the trapped birds, which had been stuck for hours. Upon arrival, I quickly freed the birds using scissors, ascending a ladder to cut away the constricting netting. Concerned about potential neurological damage, I transported the birds to the vet, prioritizing their safety and carefully securing them in a box in the front seat. Sadly, one bird succumbed to its injuries before receiving treatment. Notably, specific types of bird netting are illegal due to the harm they inflict. To prevent further harm, I ensured the netting was destroyed and rendered unusable.
