The formal mating season is more or less here! In some areas across the Southern Downs and Tenterfield we will see snake activity sooner than other areas depending on the temperatures and climate across the regions.

Eastern Brown Snake (Dangerously Venomous) Quick facts ⬇️ 🐍

Length: 1.5-2.0m with some specimens reaching over 2m 😮

Strike Speed: up to 1.8m per second 💨
Distribution occurs across much of the eastern half of Australia including an isolated population in the McDonald Ranges. ⛰️

Habitat: Woodlands, Grasslands, hot dry semi-arid country and deserts, agricultural lands, urban and semi-urban areas.

Diet: 🐀 Rats and Mice form the bulk of their diet, small reptiles other snakes and occasionally small birds and frogs. 🐸

Colour: HIGHLY VARIABLE! Light, Tan, Grey, Brown to virtually Black. Orange and reddish coloured specimens also occur. Some adult specimens have bands which can often be carried through from juvenile years.

☠️ Venom: pre-synaptic neurotoxin, thrombin, cardiotoxins, nephrotoxins.
