🐾 June is Microchipping Month! 🐾

Did you know that in Queensland, all dogs and cats must be microchipped before they reach 12 weeks of age, or before they are sold or given away? Keeping your pet's microchip details up to date is also a legal requirement and is one of the best ways to ensure they can be reunited with you if they ever become lost.

A microchip provides your pet with permanent identification that won't fall off or wear out like a collar or tag. It gives them the best chance of making it safely home if they wander, escape, or become separated from you.

🐶🥹Puppy Love 🥹🐶

This adorable litter of British Bulldog puppies recently came in for their first vaccinations and microchips- these little ones were born right here at the clinic via caesarean. It's always a special moment for the team when these puppies come back in for their routine visits.

Vaccinations are such an important part of giving puppies the best start in life, helping protect them from serious and potentially life-threatening diseases while their immune systems are still developing.

Safe to say these little faces made everyone's day

🐾 Patient story- Bella 🐾

Recently, one of our long-term clients brought their beautiful Airedale Terrier, Bella, into the clinic after noticing a lump on her cheek. While some lumps can be harmless, it’s always important to have any new or changing lumps checked by a veterinarian.

Dr Sophie was able to take a small sample of cells from the lump to help determine the next steps. Based on the results, it was recommended that the lump be removed sooner rather than later, and our team promptly booked Bella in for surgery just two days later.

The mass was successfully removed and sent to the laboratory for testing, where it was identified as a trichoblastoma — a typically benign tumour that arises from hair follicle cells. This was wonderful news for Bella and her owners.
Bella was a fantastic patient throughout the process and has recovered beautifully, back to her happy, playful self.

Cases like Bella’s are exactly why we encourage pet owners not to ignore lumps and bumps. Sometimes they are simple fatty lumps or benign growths, but other times they may require treatment. Early detection gives us the best chance to diagnose, treat, and achieve the best possible outcome for your pet.

That’s why we’ve extended our offer until the end of June:

Have you noticed a lump or bump on your pet lately? 🐾

Not all lumps are dangerous — some can be harmless fatty lumps or benign growths — but others can be more serious and require treatment.
The tricky part is that it’s impossible to know just by looking or feeling them.

That’s why checking lumps early is so important.
This helps us better understand what type of lump we may be dealing with and whether further treatment is needed.

✨ Currently, we are offering FREE lump cytology with any health check, vaccination, or consultation.
What does this mean for you?

✔️ Free lump assessment cytology
✔️ Peace of mind
✔️ Early detection and treatment planning if needed

Combined with 20% off consultations and vaccinations, now is the perfect time to book your pet in and investigate that lump you’ve been meaning to check.

Consultations normally $85, now $68
Vaccinations (C5, F3) normally $99, now $79.20

Early detection can make all the difference. 💙

🪱 Frequently Asked - Equine Worming 🪱

As we move into the cooler seasons in SE QLD, this is a key time to reassess your horse’s worming program.

Autumn is one of the most important worming times of the year because:

• Bot larvae are potentially now inside the horse and can be treated
• Strongyles (small redworms) remain active
• Strategic time to reduce pasture contamination before winter

What parasites are we targeting?
In autumn we’re mainly focussing on:
• Small strongyles- most common
• Bots- picked up over summer
• Tapeworms (often included in autumn season)

Recommended autumn worming approach:

Step 1: Perform a Faecal Egg Count (FEC)
Ideally test before worming

Helps to identify:
• High Shedders vs Low Shedders
• Whether treatment is actually needed
• Reduces unnecessary drenching and resistance
• Most adult horses should have 2-4 FECs per year

Step 2: Treat strategically (if required)

How can WE help with this? 👉🏼

At MBV we are able to send away your horse’s faecal sample to the lab to be tested for an additional $65 on top of any consultation, health check or dental visit.

This fee covers:
• The lab analysis
• Interpretation of the results by one of our veterinarian’s
• Recommendation of most effective treatment based off of the FEC results

Management Matters
We encourage:
• Pick up manure regularly
• Avoid overstocking your paddocks
• Rotate grazing where possible
• Make the most of your horse's routine visits by adding targeted services for a more effective and tailored treatment plan or guide
