Volunteers took the horses on an outing on Wednesday. Most days the horses are either busy with riding classes, undertaking training or in their paddocks. For a change of scene they were taken on an outing into a paddock adjacent to our Centre.

πŸ΄πŸ‘‘ Meet Princess – Small Pony, Big Personality

Our newest addition to the RDA Kendall team, Princess might be the smallest horse in the herd, but she is impossible to overlook. At around 10 hands high, this fluffy little Shetland stands well below the rest β€” but that does not bother her one bit. She is confident, curious, and full of character.

Princess belongs to one of our dedicated volunteers and has recently joined the RDA Kendall crew. While she is too small for most riders, she still plays an important role. With her long mane and shaggy forelock, she is a favourite with children (and grown-ups too) who love to pat and spend time with her.

Spend a little time near Princess and you will see her personality shine through β€” from the way she paws the ground when she is impatient, to her dramatic head tosses. She has been known to rest one back leg and yawn like a bored toddler… or stand quietly with her back legs crossed, like a demure little lady patiently waiting.

Full of character and cuteness, she will be sure to win many hearts. πŸ’•

Cheeky, cuddly, and full of sass, Princess brings joy wherever she goes β€” and we are delighted to have her as part of the team.

Farewell to Ari πŸ΄πŸ’›

Today we said goodbye to the beautiful Ari, who has moved on from RDA Kendall to begin a new chapter in life.

Ari has been part of the RDA Kendall herd for around three years, and in that time he became a much-loved member of the team.

A striking Warmblood x Stock Horse gelding, Ari stood at 16 hands with a distinctive burnt buckskin coatβ€”and he certainly knew how to pose for a photo!

At around 19–20 years old, Ari (short for Aristos, we believe) brought a wealth of experience with him, having previously enjoyed a life of eventing, pony club, and even horseball. He joined RDA with a gentle heart and a generous spirit, and quickly earned a reputation as our β€œbig sook”—affectionate, and always ready for a cuddle.

While Ari has served our riders beautifully, it was time for him to move on to a different lifestyle that better suits his energy and needs. We know he will thrive in his next home, and we send him on with love and gratitude.

Thank you, Ari. You will always be one of the handsome ones. 🌿🐎

What a great day we had on Wednesday at the RDA Kendall Centre!

Even though our regular riding classes pause during the school holidays, there's no rest for our horses β€” or our amazing volunteers.

We were lucky to have sunshine and perfect weather for a full day of horse and volunteer rider training.

It’s been fantastic to see so many of our volunteers β€” many of whom came to us with little or no horse experience β€” now confidently catching, grooming, rugging, and leading the horses. Some have even taken the next step from horse handling to horse riding!

Under the guidance of our experienced coaches, they’re learning to ride our lovely horses β€” and thoroughly enjoying the experience.

Here we have Paris on Jay. Paris last rode a horse at age 12, when she decided riding wasn’t for her. But on Wednesday, she had a change of heart β€” and as you can see, she looked like a natural!

With the support of our coaches, Paris quickly found her confidence again and was soon ready for the Olympics (well… almost!).

After a full morning of horse work, a BBQ lunch brought everyone together and wrapped up a day filled with learning, connection, and plenty of laughs.

It was a great reminder of what our volunteers gain by giving β€” new skills, new friendships, and a real sense of satisfaction.
