🦘 If you hit a Kangaroo
🚨 Safety First:
Pull over to a safe location, away from traffic, and activate your hazard lights.
🤕 Check for Injuries:
Ensure you and your passengers are safe. Call for medical assistance if needed (000 in Australia)
🔎 Assess the Situation:
If the kangaroo is alive, avoid approaching it. It may be injured and could lash out.
If the kangaroo is deceased and poses a hazard to other drivers, attempt to move it off the road if it's safe to do so. If it's not safe, call the appropriate authorities.
🍼 Joey in Pouch:
If the kangaroo is female, check the pouch for a joey. If a joey is present, try to keep it safe and contact a wildlife rescue organization for advice on how to proceed.
🛑 If you find a Joey try and not look after them yourself. These animals require proper care.
🤷♂️ Alternatives:
If the kangaroo is deceased and blocking the road, contact your local council or road services organization.
Note the location of the incident and any landmarks to help rescuers find the animal.
If possible, stay at the location until rescuers arrive, or leave something visible to mark the spot.
