Bite wounds, whether from another dog or animal, should always be taken seriously. โš ๏ธ

Even small puncture wounds can be deceptive; damage beneath the skin can be significant. Bite wounds carry a high infection risk and can involve deeper structures like muscles or body cavities like the chest and lungs.

Always seek veterinary attention after a bite, even if it looks minor. Early treatment can prevent serious complications. ๐Ÿถ Contact our clinic promptly if your dog has been bitten.

Straining to defecate, or poo, can be caused by lots of different conditions. ๐Ÿพ

Constipation causes straining with little output and hard, dry stools. Diarrhoea can also cause straining, but with frequent, loose or mucousy poos.

Peria**l issues like a**l gland infections can also make toileting uncomfortable. If your dog is straining or not producing normal poo, book in with one of our vets. ๐Ÿ’ฌ

Gut upset is common in pets. ๐Ÿพ Most mild cases resolve with rest and bland food.

However, seek vet care if you notice blood in vomit or poo, repeated vomiting, lethargy, loss of appetite, a painful abdomen, or symptoms lasting more than 24 hours.

If your pet is very young, elderly or has a pre-existing health condition, don't wait. Give us a call sooner rather than later. ๐Ÿ’ก

Meet the team Monday - Welcome Mia!

A big welcome to our new Client Care Specialist Mia! Mia joins our team from her hometown of Richmond, where she spent her whole life before deciding on a change and making the move to Charters Towers. Mia is very excited to be our new friendly face on the front desk ๐Ÿ˜

Mia has a strong love of animals, as well as helping clients, hearing their stories and being able to assist them in their pet's healthcare journey. In addition, she loves to learn new things and is very keen to learn all about the veterinary industry! ๐Ÿฉบ

Outside of work, you'll find Mia relaxing with a good book, spending time with her animals as well as going for buggy or horse rides! ๐Ÿด

Be sure to say 'Hi' to Mia the next time you're in clinic!

Uh oh! Your pet has a fresh surgical site (think desexing wound or lump removal) which suddenly looks swollen โ€“ what could be going on?

Wound puffiness can occur due to:

โš ๏ธ Soft tissue inflammation (more likely with overactivity)
โš ๏ธ The formation of a seroma (fluid swelling)
โš ๏ธ Inflammation from the body reacting excessively to internal stitches
โš ๏ธ Infection (which is more likely if your pet has licked the wound, or the wound was contaminated)
โš ๏ธ Wound breakdown

If you have any concerns about your pet post-operatively, itโ€™s always best to reach out promptly to our caring team.
