Maisie vs the Vacuum!

Maisie loves chasing the vacuum, so we’re teaching her that calm behaviour pays much better!

We start with the vacuum switched off and at a comfortable distance. The moment Maisie notices it but chooses not to react, we mark that behaviour and reward her with a tasty treat.

Gradually, we build up to movement and sound, always rewarding her for staying calm, looking away or checking in with us.

We’re not just teaching Maisie not to chase the vacuum; we’re changing her association with it.

“Does your dog stare at you every time you sit down to eat?”

“If your dog has ever received food from the table, they have a reason to keep trying! Give them an alternative. Practise settling on their bed while you eat and reward that behaviour. Make sure everyone in the household follows the same rules.”
