A special congratulations to Emilia for having a spectacular day on her first competition representing Southside Pony Club. She showcased the growth in her riding skills and horsemanship, taking home plenty of ribbons for her wonderful riding.

Wishing our Southside PC rider Bronte all the very best at the Interschool National Championships.

Bronte has not only being selected to represent Queensland for Dressage and Combined Training, but was also elected to be Team Captain for Queensland's Combined Training team.

Equine Herpesvirus Type 1

At our recent Show Jumping event, we were extremely privileged to hear directly from Dr Allison Stewart, Equine Medicine Specialist - School of Veterinary Science, University of Queensland on the EHV-1 and how to remain viligant for signs and measures to prevent and manage equine herpesvirus type 1.

Dr Stewart advised the highly contagious disease commonly presents with cough and nasal discharge and to immediate isolate the horse should symptoms present. A couple of important points for horse owners who attend pony club competitions:

- Do not bring horses (or in-contact horses) with cough or nasal discharge or fever to a competition/clinic.
- Do not use shared water troughs
- Do not pat other horses at competitions (human hands can spread) and do not allow horse nose to nose contact. Dr Stewart acknowledged this is challenging in yards or wire stables.
- Do not place horses who have been out at competitions near pregnant mares. Ideally all transported horses should be isolated from resident horses to prevent spread of any diseases caught at an event.
