FROM TO-DO TO TO-DONE! ✅️

Taking the dog walk off your list and turning it into your pup’s favourite part of the day. 🐾

Because every wiggly bum, happy bark, and “OMG you’re back!!” face reminds me why I do this.
Even when I’m running on cold coffee, zero sleep, and a half-eaten muesli bar Oliver left in the cup holder.

Some days I’ve got a 4-year-old riding shotgun and a dog in the back—both hyped for walkies.
It’s mud on the seats, nose smudges on the windows, fur everywhere…
and I wouldn’t have it any other way. 💛

They don’t care that I forgot to brush my hair or that my socks don’t match.
They just want cuddles, sniffaris, and someone who shows up.
And I bloody love being that person.

📲 Book your pup in—let’s make life a little easier (and a whole lot cuter).

STILL IN MUM MODE 💛

Currently not being dragged down the street by a 40kg floof or bribing someone to p*e before the rain hits…
Instead, I’m home full-time with my little koala — still feeling under the weather and very much in needs-his-mamma mode.

To my amazing clients:
THANK YOU for being so patient, understanding, and ridiculously kind during this little pause.
Your flexibility means the world to us (and gives me one less thing to cry about during Bluey marathons and Panadol runs 🫠).

I miss your pups like mad and can’t wait to be back soon, smelling like liver treats and dog slobber again.
Until then — we’re soaking up these snuggles and healing one cuddle at a time.

Much love,
Irene & my tiny sidekick 🧒

PAW-LITICAL MONDAY:
Should our pups get government rebates, too?

Alright, fellow pet parents, it’s time to dive into a debate that’s as fiery as a dog’s love for bacon treats! 🔥

We just got Franklin's insurance renewal letter, and in seven short years, his premium has catapulted from a cozy $30 to a jaw-dropping $150 a month! 😡 And guess what? Because his first skin allergy flare-up happened during the waiting period, none of his skin issues are covered. Talk about a raw deal!

So, here’s the burning question: should we ditch the old system and give our furry family members their own Medicare? 🤔
Imagine a world where no pet parent has to choose between their pup’s health and their bank account. Sounds like a no-brainer, right? But hold your horses (or your hounds)—let’s stir the pot a little more.

Would a 'Pupcare' mean higher taxes or fees for pet owners? Would we be drowning in paperwork every time Fido needs a check-up? And can one plan really fit the needs of every unique pup out there?
These are the questions that’ll have tails wagging and opinions flying!

So, what’s your take? Are you ready to join the 'Pupcare' movement, or do you think our current system is just fine?
Let’s hear those opinions!

YOUR PET'S A BIT WEIRD. THAT'S COOL. SO ARE WE.

At Tails on Trails, we’ve met a lot of pets. And if there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s this:

Normal is overrated.

We don’t just walk dogs and top up water bowls. We learn all the weird little things that make your pet them. And then we roll with it.

Let’s start with Barks.
She doesn’t walk like a regular dog. Barks follows a carefully placed trail of kibble crumbs like she’s starring in Hansel & Gretel.
Want her to get to the end of the driveway? Better start sprinkling, baby.
I’ve laid out more kibble trails than a wildlife ranger.
Has it worked? Yes. Am I slightly embarrassed when people drive past? Also yes. But she’s happy, and that’s what matters.

Then there’s Mr. Penny, who sips his water oh-so-gently—but only from the outer edge of the bowl.
Which means I have to place it in exactly the right shady spot that stays cool all day. If even a sliver of sun hits that rim, he gives me a look like I’ve just offered him a bowl of molten lava.

And of course, there’s Obi, who thinks a 200-metre car ride is the highlight of life.
We could walk to the park, sure. But no—he wants the full windows-down, wind-in-your-face ride. It’s not about the destination for Obi. It’s about vibes.

We’ve met dogs that won’t p**p if you’re watching.
Cats that will only drink from cristal glasses.
Pups that need a pre-walk pep talk.
And seniors who just want a cuddle and a lie-down in the sun.

And that’s what we love.

We don’t treat your pets like a checklist.
We treat them like part of the gang.
We remember what makes them tick, what freaks them out, what they love, and what makes their tail do that full-body happy wiggle.

So if you’re looking for someone to feed, walk, and “just keep your pet alive”... there are plenty of options. We’re probably not the right fit.

But if you want someone who will sprinkle kibble down the footpath, track the sun like a meteorologist to keep a water bowl cool, and drive your dog to the park just to make them smile...

That's us! Tails on Trails,
A little weird, a lot of heart.

SHE RUNS. TRACTIVE SNITCH.

So, picture this: it’s Happy’s second day at home, and I leave her in the dog boarding house, thinking, “What could go wrong?” 🤔

Well, our little Houdini decided to show off her skills and pulled a disappearing act. One minute she’s there, the next she’s nowhere to be seen on the camera. 😱

Cue me, freaking out, stopping all my walks, and racing home, only to find her lounging on the couch in the main house, probably wondering what all the fuss was about. Luckily, she found her way through the doggy door instead of heading out on an adventure down the street! 🙏

That little heart attack made me realise it was time for an upgrade from our old Bluetooth Tile tracker (great for keys, not so much for a sneaky pup) to a Tractive GPS tracker. With real-time GPS and cellular technology, I can now keep tabs on Happy no matter where she decides to roam. 🚨

And let me tell you, Tractive it’s not just a GPS tracker—it’s basically a Fitbit for pets! It tracks her sleep, her zoomies, and even her little doggy heartbeat. There’s literally a leaderboard where I can see how Happy stacks up against other pups her breed—like a step challenge, but with more butt wiggles and fewer gym selfies. 🤳

And look, I scroll past way too many “Lost Dog” posts that make my heart sink. One loose gate, one loud noise, one possum with an attitude—and your dog could be gone. That’s why I don’t mess around. For $99, Tractive gives me real-time location updates, instant alerts, and a whole lot of peace of mind.
Honestly? It’s not just a tracker—it’s a sanity saver.

Wilfred’s life motto: “If I fits, I sleeps—with toes for comfort.”

This isn’t where their story is meant to end.

The first photo was taken just hours after they arrived — safe, rescued, free from the pound and full of promise. Tails wagging, hearts open. It felt like a new beginning.

The second… was taken 48hrs later. When parvo hit.

So many of the dogs on that transport were exposed. Some are now gone. Others are fighting with everything they’ve got.

It’s devastating — but we’re not giving up on them.

Together with Nicolette, we’ve launched a GoFundMe to help cover emergency vet care, testing for the other dogs, and hopefully fund pre-transport testing in the future so no other pup has to arrive only to fall sick hours later.

This isn’t a fundraiser run by the rescue. It’s just two people doing what we can — because these dogs matter. Their lives matter. And we believe their stories deserve a hopeful next chapter.

If you can help — whether it’s donating, sharing, or just sending love — thank you.

These pups have already survived so much.
Let’s help them keep going. 💛

NOT ALL DOGS NEED FENCES. SOME JUST NEED UNDERSTANDING.

I commented on a post in a caravanning group recently — someone asked what’s the hardest part of travelling with dogs, and I answered honestly: off-leash dogs in places where the rules clearly say dogs must be on leash.

It’s frustrating. Especially for those of us caring for dogs who are reactive, anxious, recovering from trauma, or in training.

I wasn’t rude. I just pointed out that not all dogs can (or should) be approached and that off-leash dogs with no recall can create real problems — and risks.

But then came the comment:
"Reactive dogs belong behind a 6ft colourbond fence, you as***le."

The post was removed, but let’s talk about it.

Reactive dogs aren’t “bad” dogs. They might be scared. Or misunderstood. They may have been abused, failed by humans, or simply overwhelmed. Some are older and tired. Some are working through trauma. Some are just having a bad day — like people do.

These dogs don’t deserve to be hidden away. They deserve patience, space, and the chance to feel safe.

Not every dog wants to say hello. And that’s okay. Leashing your dog when required isn’t just about following the rules — it’s about being respectful of others.

So if you see someone giving their dog space, crossing the road, or asking you not to let your dog run up — they’re not being difficult. They’re being responsible.

Let’s normalise being kind. Let’s normalise understanding that dogs, like people, have boundaries.

And maybe… some humans would benefit from a 6ft fence more than the dogs ever would.
