Schnauzer Rescue Qld Inc

Schnauzer Rescue Qld Inc We rescue or re-home schnauzers of any size in Queensland & connect them with new owners. Our aim always is to place the dog in the best possible forever home.

We are a group of volunteers with various backgrounds and experience with the schnauzer breed. We help co-ordinate the rescue and re-homing of schnauzers and schnauzer-crosses throughout South East Queensland, Australia. We also understand that surrendering a family pet can be a distressing decision, so be assured your privacy is respected at all times and our members manage your enquiry with conf

identiality and discretion. If you are needing to surrender or re-home your dog, or know of one in need, we are always open to take your message or call or email [email protected]

As a Not-For-Profit, donations to our group of any amount are put toward the many costs associated with dogs coming in to our care and are always appreciated. Our much anticipated Schnauzer Rescue Calendar is our main fundraiser for the year and goes on sale via Sticky Tickets around October/November annually. Our Wait List for 2025/26 is now open - please read the requirements and submit your application via this Google form https://forms.gle/pDVTxwGEso95QMAGA

Who can recognise their dog in the following?

What’s your dog’s “thing”?
Because it might not be the $70 enrichment toy sitting untouched in the corner.

Enrichment has become a massive buzz word lately.
Every second product promises mental stimulation, calmness and fulfilment.

But real enrichment?
It’s much simpler .

Some dogs would choose shredding cardboard over a puzzle toy every single time.
Some want to sniff every blade of grass.
Some thrive on running, jumping and movement.
Some love chewing and licking.
Some enjoy solving problems.
Some just want to quietly watch the world go by.

That’s the bit we can miss.

We start choosing enrichment based on trends, marketing or what other dogs enjoy instead of observing our own dogs and what brings them joy.

A dog walking away from a puzzle toy is not “failing enrichment”.
They may simply be telling you
“This isn’t my thing.”

So what is?💭

Finding a quick way to cover a sore paw usually happens right when the vet is closed, but a simple spare sock often does the trick. You can turn an old tube sock into a protective sleeve for your pup by following these steps:

1. Select a clean, breathable cotton sock that fits comfortably around your dog's leg without being too tight.
2. Carefully snip a small circular hole near the toe area, which allows the paw to peek out while the rest of the foot stays covered.
3. Slide the fabric up the leg gently to shield any irritated areas from rough surfaces or debris.
4. Check that the fabric remains snug enough to stay put but loose enough to maintain healthy circulation.

This method keeps your pet from constantly licking sensitive spots, which allows natural healing to happen much faster. It is a relief to have such an accessible solution during those unexpected minor emergencies.

🚨 FOSTER CARERS URGENTLY NEEDED — CAN YOU HELP? 🚨

We are urgently looking for foster carers for these beautiful dogs 💛🐾

We are asked daily to help dogs just like these — but we can only say yes when we have foster homes available. Fostering truly saves lives.

⚠️ Please only apply if you are genuinely ready to foster.
We are increasingly having people join as foster carers and then be unavailable when dogs need placement, which makes it very difficult when dogs are relying on us. If you’re ready to commit to fostering, we would love to hear from you.

🐾 1. Mini Dachshund — 12 months old (Female)
A sweet young girl who is a little unsure with other dogs and would do best with a calm, submissive small breed dog… or potentially as an only dog. She is not aggressive, just needing confidence and gentle support.

✔️ Child friendly
✔️ Dog friendly (with the right match)
❓ Cat tested unknown

🐾 2. British Bulldog — 18 months old (Female) [SORTED]
A gorgeous bulldog girl looking for a bulldog-experienced foster home. She likes to be “top dog,” so an only dog foster home is preferred at this stage.

✔️ Child friendly
✔️ Best as only dog
❓ Cat tested unknown

🐾 3. BONDED PAIR — Mini Schnauzers (Male & Female) [SORTED]
A beautiful bonded pair, aged 3 and 4 years, looking for a foster home together 💛

✔️ Dog friendly
✔️ Child friendly
❓ Cat tested unknown

📍 Foster homes needed in:
Brisbane | Ipswich | Toowoomba | Redland Bay | Gold Coast | Sunshine Coast

🐾 Why foster?
• We cover all vet care
• You provide love, safety and a temporary home
• You directly save a life

⚠️ Please note:
These dogs are not available for adoption at this stage — we are seeking foster carers only.

If you feel you can help, please complete our foster application below and our team will be in touch 💛

Good insight into that butt sniffing that schnauzers enjoy so much ☺️

Good insight into that butt sniffing that schnauzers enjoy so much ☺️

It’s never “just a sniff”.
It looks quick and meaningless to us. Not to them.

That moment gives them information you can’t see.
Who this dog is.
If they’ve met before.
How old they are.
What state they’re in right now.
Whether something feels a little bit “off”

Even health and hormones come into it.

Now the bit that’s missed, not every dog allows that information to be shared.

Tail position, posture, movement.
That can decide whether access is given or “denied” and only some will do this or allow it to be done.
I’m not a fan of turning a dog around to “present the rear” either. If they do it naturally, great, if they don’t, no biggie.
Some dogs just do not get their noses in that position at all.

For the ones that do?
It’s not about letting every dog sniff every dog.
But it is about understanding what’s actually happening in that moment.

And that’s a lot!

✅️ Can't say it often enough ... check your chip details!

Is your dog planning a solo adventure? 🐾 Today is National Lost Dog Awareness Day. While we all love a happy reunion story, the goal today is prevention.

Statistically, 1 in 3 pets will go missing in their lifetime. Whether it's a gate left open or a sudden fright, it only takes a second. Here is your Pet Safety Audit to ensure your best friend stays exactly where they belong:

🔹 The Microchip Check: A chip is only as useful as the info on it! If you’ve changed your mobile number or moved house, your pet is effectively unidentifiable. (See our guide on how to update your details in the first comment! 👇)

🔹 The "Recall" Rule: Training is your best insurance policy. A reliable "come" command can turn a scary moment into a safe one.

🔹 Supervision is Key: Sadly, pet theft is on the rise. Even in a fenced yard, it’s best to keep a watchful eye, especially on high-value or popular breeds.

🔹 Proactive Tech: We’re moving from "passive" recovery (chips/tags) to "active" prevention. GPS tracking is the new gold standard for peace of mind.

💡 GIVEAWAY REMINDER: To help keep our community safe, we’re currently giving away a Life360 Pet GPS Tracker & Gold Membership! If you haven’t entered yet, there’s still time to add that extra layer of digital security to your pack.
🏁 Entries close this Monday, April 27. 👉 [see our pinned post]
