Rescue is not easy, and it's never cheap. Behind 99% of independent dog rescues in Australia, there are volunteers that are emotionally and financially strained, desperately trying to save dogs from being put down.

🧡 THE TRUE COST OF RESCUE 🧡

We’re just like you — we have jobs, bills, families, and our own pets to care for. But in between all of life’s chaos, we choose to help the ones who have no voice. The abandoned, the neglected, the misunderstood. We are volunteers — not a business, not a government-funded program — but a team of humans doing everything we can with what little we have.

Running a not-for-profit rescue comes with enormous costs. Every dog we take in needs:
✔️ Vet work — desexing, vaccinations, microchipping, flea & tick protection
✔️ Food and parasite prevention
✔️ Emergency care for the sick, the injured, and the broken
✔️ Training, rehab, and sometimes months of foster care
✔️ Transport, supplies, and boarding when we run out of space

This can range from $300 to $2,000+ per dog. And sometimes… we never even recoup the cost.

💰 Adoption fees don’t “make money” — they help cover a fraction of what we spend saving lives. The rest? We pay out of pocket, fundraise, and rely on donations from kind souls who believe in what we do.

So next time you wonder why there’s an adoption fee, or why we’re slow to reply (it’s probably 11pm and we’re still checking emails), please know: we’re doing our best — for them.

Hey Friends!

I'm Cardi, a gentle giant Neo Mastiff X, and I'm on the hunt for my furever home! I'm a big ol' softie, aged 5, and I've been with my amazing friends at DRU for 3.5 years.

My story's not all snuggles and treats, though. I used to be a breeding dog, which meant I didn't get the love and care I deserved. BUT, DRU rescued me and became my safe place!

Now, I'm ready to find my new best friend! I've been working super hard to build my confidence, and I'm getting better at being home alone. I need someone who'll be home often, patient, and willing to help me become the most confident pup I can be!

My perfect match would be a home with:

No other furry friends (I want all the attention!)
No tiny humans (I'm a big ol' gentle giant, but I don't want to accidentally squish anyone!)

My name is Oreo, I have recently been Rescued, I am now seeking someone special to help me rewrite my story and fill it with love and warmth.

✨Personality:
My heart remains open and full of love. I adore people, I’m still a little unsure on men, but I know with time and patience, I can learn to embrace the kindness they offer and let go of my fears. With slow introduction and patience, I have warmed up to a few kind gentlemen.

✨Socialization:
The world outside is a vast and scary place for me, with so much left unexplored. However, recently I have been living with another dog, and I find myself getting along with him. With gentle guidance, I believe I can learn to navigate this new world and forge friendships along the way.

✨Training Needs:
I'm still learning the basics, like potty training, but with someone patient by my side, I crave structure and routine, something to ground me and help me feel secure in my surroundings.

✨Ideal Home:
My ideal home is one filled with peace and tranquility, where I can feel safe to be myself. I long for a quiet household, where someone home often and there to offer a comforting hand and a gentle word. A place where my past is understood and my future is filled with hope. A home without children would be best for me, as I need a calm environment to thrive.

It sets a bad precedent. Abandoning a dog ANYWHERE gives it a poor chance of a good life. I really hope Charlie ends up with the people he deserves.

All animals below have been desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and flea/worm treated. Whilst they love being cared for in their foster carers homes, there is nothing better than living their best life in a forever home… Could one of these gorgeous souls be your next furrever friend? 💓

Just a friendly reminder that we can receive many applications for some of our dogs. We try our best to get back to everyone who has applied, but our foster carers are volunteers with limited time. If we don’t get back to you within 5 days, assume that you have not been successful for that specific pet you applied for. Please don’t be discouraged by an unsuccessful application, we most likely received a more suitable one for that particular dog. We encourage you to apply for one of our other dogs in care.
