Did a hive mite inspection yesterday with help from Kathy Knox, QVD Officer. The count was 8: she informed me 2 other Beeks within half a click of me are also infected. It is likely that all my hives are infected.
I run 2 brood plus various suppers. Because of the cost of treatment and the extra labour/time, we reduced down to 1 brood, (treatment, BAYVAROL strips) queen excluder,,,, second brood box, (not treated) having mostly capped honey, 2/3 suppers which I will remove over the next couple of weeks. We did this to all the hives.
Eventually I will be manipulating the single brood boxgiven this statement.
Báyvarol, "Accumulates in brood combs with repeated application
Residues in propolis
DO NOT produce comb honey
DO NOT make beeswax
Any honey extracted from the brood box must be tested for residues prior to sale for human consumption

I assume this will apply to all chemical treatment.
So how are people going to proceed?
