🐾 HAPPY NATIONAL DOG DAY 🐾

Today we celebrate the dogs who make us laugh, keep us company, challenge us, teach us patience and somehow manage to make every day just that little bit better. 🐶

Working with dogs every day means I get to see their personalities shine, help them build confidence, learn new skills and, most importantly, help them enjoy life alongside their humans.

So today, give your dog an extra cuddle, an extra sniff on their walk, their favourite game or simply some quality time doing what they love.

Because they may only be part of our lives…but to them, we are their whole world. 🐾💜

Happy National Dog Day to all the beautiful dogs who make life better just by being in it!

If a calm dog is your goal, you need to stop rewarding the excitement and chaos!

Wait for calm behaviour before you open the door, before you put the leash on and before you feed your dog. Your dog learns from what gets them access to the things they really want. If excitement gives them access to these things then guess what they will keep choosing? Yes excitement!

But when calm behaviour is what gives them access to these things…….everything will start to change. Train for calm in these daily moments and start seeing positive results 🙌🏻

We can’t always give our dogs the perfect amount of stimulation coz life gets busy and sometimes our days swallow us up! Our dogs need us to show up for them most of the time though so even when you’re tired, make the effort to at least go for a quick sniff walk with your dog, have a play with them in your yard or do a training session with them.

🐾 TRAINING IS MORE THAN TEACHING COMMANDS — IT’S SPENDING QUALITY TIME TOGETHER 💜

Some of the best dog training happens in the everyday moments you share with your dog.

Going for a walk, practising a few skills in the backyard, playing together or simply spending calm time side-by-side all help build trust, communication and connection.

Training doesn’t always need to be a big session. Even 5–10 minutes of focused time can make a difference.

🐕 Take a relaxed training walk
💜 Reward the behaviours you love
🎾 Play and have fun together
🐾 Give your dog your full attention

The more time you spend learning and communicating together, the better you begin to understand each other.

Do you want to enjoy walks with your dog rather than dread them?

If your dog is pulling you down the street, making a bee line towards every tree or lunging and barking at other dogs you pass, you are probably feeling stressed, frustrated and somewhat embarrassed. You may be absolutely dreading your daily walk with your dog or you might have given up walking them altogether.

If you’re feeling defeated and thinking your dog’s behaviour on walks will never improve, I’d love to show you that it can and how to make it happen.

I have personal experience dealing with my own reactive dog who became reactive after staying in a kennel while we were on holidays. I’ve helped many dog owners work through various behavioural issues with their dogs including reactivity, impulse control and leash pulling.
