AU CH Rushinround A Balance In Time — “Drift” ❤️

Every now and then, as a breeder, you get to watch something happen that makes all the years of planning, dreaming, breeding and hoping worthwhile.

For me, Drift — AU CH Rushinround A Balance In Time — is one of those dogs.

Drift was bred by me from CH Duff Diament Jakucji (Imp BGR) and Amore Sandys Karma, born on 7 June 2024.

When I bred this litter, I had hopes for what these puppies could become, but you can never truly know what lies ahead when you are looking at a litter of puppies.

Drift was special from the beginning.

And then came the opportunity for her to travel to Western Australia and become part of something that was, at the time, incredibly exciting for the breed.

Drift became the first Yakutian Laika to call Western Australia home.

That is something I am incredibly proud of as her breeder.

The Yakutian Laika is such a fascinating breed, with an incredible history and a very distinct type, character and purpose. To see one of my own breeding go to a new state and become an ambassador for the breed has been incredibly rewarding.

But Drift didn’t simply arrive in WA and sit pretty.

She went to work. 😂❤️

She began her show career as a Baby Puppy and quickly showed everyone that she was there to be taken seriously.

Watching the results come through from Western Australia has been fantastic — Best of Breeds, Bitch Challenges, Puppy of Breed, Junior of Breed, Australian Bred of Breed and multiple Group and special show achievements, culminating in Drift gaining her Australian Championship title.

She has competed successfully at some of the biggest and most important shows in Western Australia and has consistently represented the breed with the quality, structure and temperament that we hoped to produce when we planned her breeding.

But perhaps what makes me happiest isn’t just the list of wins.

It’s seeing Drift loved, enjoyed and appreciated for the dog she is.

She has formed a particularly special partnership with Elektra Blakeney, who has taken Drift into the ring and developed an incredible relationship with her.

To watch a young dog that I bred build that kind of connection with her handler, settle into a completely different environment and then go into the ring and perform is something every breeder hopes to see.

Drift has also achieved No. 1 Yakutian Laika Rising Star in Western Australia for 2025, another achievement that makes me incredibly proud.

For me, breeding isn’t simply about producing a champion.

It’s about preserving and improving a breed, producing dogs that can contribute to the future, and then trusting them to go out into the world and show everyone what they are capable of.

Drift has done exactly that.

She has helped introduce the Yakutian Laika to people in Western Australia who may never otherwise have had the opportunity to meet one. She has represented the breed in the show ring, made new friends for the breed and, most importantly, become a much-loved member of her family.

As her breeder, that is the part that means the most.

I am incredibly proud of Drift, her achievements and everything she has already contributed to the breed in Western Australia.

And she is still only at the beginning.

I have no doubt this beautiful girl has plenty more to give.

What a crazy couple of years it has been with these dogs ❤️🐾

I don’t normally stop and actually look at everything we have achieved because we are normally just onto the next show, the next event or whatever else we have decided to have a go at 😂 but looking back at all the photos and ribbons really made me realise how much has happened.

First of all I have to mention Dream and Caity.

I bred Dream but she is Caity’s girl, and I honestly couldn’t be prouder of what the two of them have achieved together. In less than 2 years Dream has now won 46 Class in Group awards, which is just crazy to think about.

Caity has put so much work into Dream and has continued getting her out there and showing her, even when everything in my life went completely upside down.

This year definitely hasn’t been an easy one. We lost Spirit and then only a few days later my house burnt down and we basically lost everything. For a while dog shows were the last thing on my mind because I was just trying to work out where we were going to live and how we were going to start again.

But through all of that Caity kept Dream going. She kept taking her out and showing her and I’m incredibly grateful for that.

Then came Ekka week and the dogs gave us plenty to be proud of.

At the Group Show, Duffy took Best of Breed and Dream was Runner-Up Best of Breed.

Then at the actual Royal Ekka Show, Mydnyt took Best of Breed and Duffy was Runner-Up Best of Breed.

To have Dream, Duffy and Mydnyt all getting some great results across the two shows was pretty bloody awesome and something I’m very proud of.

Then because apparently the Ekka wasn’t enough 😂 I backed it straight up with SprintDog with Duffy and Mydnyt.

Both boys got out there and had a go, and Mydnyt gave me another reason to be proud of him. During his run there was another dog running in the exclusion zone that could have easily distracted him, but Mydnyt stayed focused and kept going. He ended up receiving a special ribbon for his run, which was pretty special.

And it hasn’t just been the show ring and SprintDog either.

Jenna has been getting out there with Fenrir doing sledding, and she has also taken Mydnyt out to have a go at sledding as well. I love seeing these dogs getting the opportunity to do different things and showing that they can be more than just pretty dogs standing in a show ring.

That is something I really want for the dogs I breed. I want to see them out there doing things with their owners, whether that’s showing, SprintDog, sledding or just getting out and having fun together.

When I look back at everything that has happened, especially after the fire and everything else this year has thrown at us, I’m pretty bloody proud that we have just kept going.

I’m proud of Dream and everything Caity has achieved with her, proud of Duffy and Mydnyt, and proud of Jenna and Fenrir for getting out there and having a go at something completely different.

Most of all I’m proud seeing dogs that I have bred or been part of getting out there, doing what they love and showing just how versatile the Yakutian Laika can be.

And I can’t forget May and Cindy taking Hazel and Lucy, Winter with Jaymee, along to Dog Lovers as well. ❤️🐾

Seeing our dogs getting out there at events like Dog Lovers, meeting people and helping introduce more people to the Yakutian Laika is another thing I’m really proud of. For a breed that is still growing in Australia, having people willing to give their time and take their dogs along so the public can meet them and learn about them means a lot.

When I look at everything together, we’ve had dogs showing, doing SprintDog, sledding and getting out to Dog Lovers representing the breed. That’s exactly what I love seeing — these dogs getting out there, doing different things and showing people just how versatile the Yakutian Laika really is.

It has been one hell of a year so far, and somehow we’re still showing, we’re running, we’re sledding and we’re definitely not finished yet 😂❤️🐾

Pretty bloody proud of our little Yakutian Laika family. ❤️🐾🏆
