Koda is a 2-year-old Blue Heeler with a big heart, hidden behind a lot of fear.
When Trish first contacted me, Koda had become highly aggressive towards other people. Anyone outside of Trish and her husband was seen as a threat. She would react strongly, making everyday life stressful and overwhelming for everyone involved.
Once we understood that Kodaâs aggression was coming from fear, everything changed. We focused on patience, gentleness, and helping her feel safe enough to trust again.
Not long after we started, I was able to approach her without being attacked. That was a huge moment. It meant Koda was starting to feel safe.
Trish put in so much work. She took Koda to busy places, gave her safe opportunities to be around new people, and stayed consistent every step of the way. Progress like this doesnât happen overnight, it happens because of dedication.
Then came the moment we had been waiting for. Koda met a gentle soul who gave her the space and patience she needed, and for the first time, she accepted pats from a stranger. That was the sunshine moment. That was trust winning over fear.
This is why understanding the âwhyâ behind a dogâs behaviour is everything. Aggression can come from many different places, and if we misunderstand it, using the wrong methods can make things so much worse.
When we stop looking at behaviour as âbadâ and start asking what the dog is trying to tell us, thatâs when real change happens.
Koda didnât need harsher handling, she needed someone to listen. And once she felt understood, everything started to change.
