Little Paws Orphan Rescue

Little Paws Orphan Rescue Working as a vet nurse, my role and experience allows me a unique opportunity to help some of the most vulnerable animals in need of medical care.

I'm only able to do this with the support of our fantastic supporters. Rescue, rehabilitate, rehome ❤️ Little Paws Orphan Rescue is a husband and wife team with a home in Bathurst. Our aim at Little Paws Orphan Rescue is to successfully rescue, rehabilitate and ethically find loving, secure and well matched homes for our rescued felines. We also aim to inform new owners about responsible pet owner

ship and preventative healthcare. For 22 years I have used my knowledge and skills working as a vet nurse in some of Sydney's largest 24hour referral hospitals to help kittens that fall through the cracks of animal welfare organisations. This includes:
1. Orphaned newborns requiring 24hour care
2. Kittens who just need time to grow before they are ready for adoption
3. Kittens that have an injury, disease or illness that requires veterinary treatment
4. Special needs kittens (vision impaired, congenital heart defect etc.)
5. Timid kittens who need time and TLC

Each kitten is kept in a loving home environment and treated as one of our own. We provide love, stability, socialisation and veterinary care. Once ready for adoption, we are able to give you a good description of their personality, likes, dislikes and what sort of family they would best suit. Little Paws Orphan Rescue is entirely self funded. Donations towards our running costs are gratefully accepted through our fund raising page http://www.gofundme.com/s6wyhc
The more resources we have, the more rescue work we can do. Outgoings are particularly expensive as the adoption fee does not cover the medical expenses to get them to the point of adoption and some kittens require months in foster care whilst receiving veterinary treatment. Donations can go towards an individual kittens care if requested. If you might be interested in becoming a possible foster career for the upcoming kitten season, please give us a call and we would love to discuss it with you further.

Remember Iris? Her story is one of resilience and strength. She presented to Stewart Street Veterinary Hospital in March as a stray cat that had been bitten by a snake. Despite barely having the strength to lift her head, her sweet spark shone through. She was given antivenom and hospitalised for several days. She responded well to treatment but wasn't out of danger. We had to wait several weeks to ensure her kidneys hadn't suffered any permanent damage. A month later, blood tests revealed she was completely healthy.
Whilst in care, we noticed Iris avoided jumping onto surfaces. We took radiographs of her pelvis. To our amazement, it was clear Iris had suffered a previous injury to her femoral head (the ball shape at the top of the thigh bone). We will never know what caused this injury or how such a sweet cat was found alone on deaths door in the middle of farm land. The radiographs were reviewed by a specialist veterinary surgeon who said no treatment was required. The old injury simply means Iris cant fully extend her leg which is why jumping is difficult for her.
Iris is estimated to be approximately three years old. She has been desexed, had her teeth scaled and polished, is vaccinated, microchipped, fleaed and wormed.
After a tough start to life, that she has overcome with incredible grace, Iris is healthy and ready to leave her past behind for a future filled with comfort and care.
Despite everything she’s been through, Iris is one of the sweetest, most affectionate cats you’ll ever meet. She loves being around people and will happily curl up beside you, purring softly as she soaks up all the love she can get. She has a calm, gentle nature and a way of making any space feel warm and peaceful. Iris enjoys quiet companionship, cozy naps, and gentle pats. She’s the kind of cat who will be your loyal shadow—never demanding, just always there when you need her. Iris would need to be in a home without other cats or dogs.
After her difficult start, Iris truly deserves a life full of kindness, security, and love. In return, she’ll give you endless affection and companionship.
If you’re looking for a sweet, resilient, and loving companion, Iris might just be the perfect match for you. Could you be the one to give Iris the happy ending she’s been waiting for? 🐱💛

Please take 2 minutes to make your opposition to the horrific 1080 bait known. I have personally stayed up all night monitoring ans nursing a little terrier mix called Rosie who accidentally ingested a 1080 bait. She required almost ten times the amount of anaesthesia normally required for a dog of her size because she kept seizuring. Even through the anaesthetic. She was one of the very, very few who survive. Yes there needs to be control of the wild dog population. However this indiscriminate horrifically cruel poison should not be the answer.

𝟲𝟳 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝟭𝟬𝟴𝟬 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗻. 𝟭𝟭𝟳 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲.

Not one penalty for an animal death. Not one prosecution in five years for the lethal misuse of a Schedule 7 dangerous poison.

We used freedom of information laws to force the NSW EPA to hand over its own enforcement records. What came back was damning.

📋 What the data shows:
↳ 117 breaches of 1080 safety laws (2020–2024)
↳ 67 confirmed animal deaths — 0 resulting in a penalty
↳ 93 cases closed with zero action
↳ Maximum penalty available: $120,000. Applied: once.
↳ Cases taking 6–17 months to investigate — for a poison whose warning signs are only legally required for 4 weeks. The evidence is long gone before anyone arrives.

When we asked how the EPA monitors all of this, we got the same answer seven times: "no records held."

The Central Coast leads the state with 8 recorded breaches and zero fines — in a region where hundreds of thousands of residents walk their dogs near active baiting zones.

Now the EPA is cutting 75 staff while communities are left more exposed than ever.
This is not a regulatory system. It is a paper exercise.

The NSW Ministers for Environment and Agriculture, both Shadow Ministers, and the EPA's Chief Executive need to answer for it — and we're making sure they hear from you.

A few days ago, a stray cat was brought into the clinic in critical condition. She had been bitten by a snake 🐍 she had no microchip and no collar. In these situations, euthanasia is usually the result, as no owner can be contacted and no one else will sign on for a medical bill of thousands for a pet that isnt theirs. Especially with the cost of living crisis right now. However, the stars aligned for this girl. I happened to be the nurse who took her from the member of public who found her. Once I met her, I knew she was an exceptionally sweet girl. Despite being too weak to lift her head, when she was pet, she started kneading with her paws. I had a discussion with the vet regarding her current condition, her chances at recovery and her long term future. With the clinic kindly offering a rescue discount, I opted to take responsibility for her and consented to treat her with anti-venom. 24hours later she was doing much better.
Something extra unique about her, is that she has heterochromia. An incredibly rare occurrence where a cat is born with two different coloured eyes! When thinking of a name for her, a fellow nurse suggested Iris. It was an instant winner!

URGENT ASSISTED REHOMING. Primrose is a 3 year old pedigree ragdoll. She is desexed and vaccinated, and has recently had her teeth cleaned. Her owner is devastated to part with her, but unfortunately it's unavoidable. She is very sweet and affectionate. She would need to be an indoors only in a home with no other cats (as she has been an only cat her whole life). Please send us a message to discuss further if you would be interested in adopting Primrose.

Another update on Cleo... clearly all smiles in her new home. Cleo was going to be euthanaised or taken home to die. There was no question that this was her fate. Her medical expenses were over $1000. All of which we covered. If we are faced with another Orphan in need, we need to rebuild our emergency funds to be able to do this. The support of our followers is critical to help us to save these little orphans ❤️
