Due to all the rain we had been having, and the effect it had on the condition of the arena, riding classes were cancelled last week.

But the time was not wasted with Sharon putting it to good use and conducted volunteer training instead.

Ongoing training is an important part of RDA, helping volunteers build confidence, keep skills up to date, and continue supporting riders and horses safely.

A lighter moment from the day was Jay, who was itchy and had been scratching himself on the rail.

A volunteer spent most of the lesson scratching his tail, while he swayed gently from side to side, clearly enjoying every minute of it. Causing much entertainment to onlookers.

Most days at RDA involve riding, training and teamwork — and some days involve making a horse very happy with a good scratch!

One of our volunteers recently captured this lovely moment with James and Katie after his riding lesson.

Calm, comfortable and clearly at ease with Katie, James shows the trust and familiarity that can grow between our riders and horses over time.

Each year, National Volunteer Week gives us an opportunity to recognise and thank volunteers across Australia for the important contribution they make in our communities. This year, National Volunteer Week runs from 18 to 24 May.💛

At RDA Kendall, that contribution takes many forms — supporting our riders, caring for our horses, maintaining the Centre, fundraising, administration, and all the quiet work needed to keep things moving so the good work can continue. 🐴

For our volunteers, the reward is often in the things that stay with them — a happy smile, a horse calmly responding, a successful fundraiser, or the chat over morning tea. 🌟

Small moments that, on reflection, bring the quiet satisfaction of knowing they were part of something worthwhile.🤗

To all our RDA Kendall volunteers, thank you. Every role, every task and every hour given helps make RDA Kendall what it is. 👏👏👏

Nothing overly exciting to report this week, but sometimes it is the small moments that are worth sharing.

This recent video shows Stephanie having her riding lesson on Comet, practising a manoeuvring exercise.

It captures some of the things we do with our riders at RDA Kendall and shows the connection between rider, horse and volunteers.

Comet is calmly responding to Stephanie’s cues, while the volunteers help ensure Stephanie feels confident, supported and in charge.

Stephanie is a familiar face at RDA Kendall and has been riding with us for many years. She is always eager and happy to get into the saddle and enjoy her ride.
