Affectionately known as Reba, has been recovering with us following surgery to remove necrotic pedal bone tissue.
We transported Reba back to Avenel from the Victorian Equine Group in Bendigo 3 days post surgery.
After the procedure, a custom plate was fitted and secured to her shoe to help protect the hoof. The gauze beneath the plate initially required changing every three days, and she has been on box rest with soft, dry footing to support her recovery. Pain relief was also administered twice daily to ensure Reba was comfortable at all times.
After touching base with the vet who performed the surgery she was recently given the all clear to spend some time in the paddock pending dry conditions.
Reba has been an absolute star throughout this whole process and is expected to make a full recovery once her hoof grows out π
