🌿 Bowie 🌿
When I first groomed Bowie over a year ago, he wouldn’t let me anywhere near his paws. Trying to clip out the matting between his toes would result in him trying to bite. It took multiple sessions, lots of patience, and some very careful scissor work to finally get his paw pads and toes completely matt-free.
Bowie was too big for me to safely lift onto the table while he was thrashing around, so many of his grooms were spent with me crawling around on the floor on my hands and knees just to work with him where he felt safest.
Fast forward to today, and he’s a completely different boy! 🥹
He happily jumps into the trailer, the bath, and even onto the table (with a little helping hand from me… though he does most of the work himself now! 😂). He actually cries with excitement until it’s his turn, and best of all, he no longer fights me over his paws.
Bowie is such a beautiful example of what regular grooming with the same patient, familiar groomer can achieve. Trust isn’t built in a single appointment, it’s built over time, with consistency and going at the dog’s pace.
Every dog’s situation is different, and while I don’t take on dogs with significant aggression or behavioural challenges, Bowie simply needed time, patience and the chance to build trust.
Watching his confidence grow has been one of the most rewarding parts of my job, and it makes me so happy to know that the calm, gentle environment I aim to create has helped him feel safe enough to actually enjoy his pamper sessions.
