Is it hard to walk your dog everyday?

Do you worry about who might feed and care for your pet if you have to go away, have appointments or an unexpected hospital visit?

Life happens, but your pet shouldn’t have to miss out on love and care.

I am Oliver, your go-to dog walker and pet caregiver - I can step in to make sure they still get the attention, exercise, and care they deserve, when you are unable to provide it.

If you know Pokémon, this top photo might look a little familiar…
Red, green and blue leads — Fire, Grass and Water, the three 'starter' Pokémon 🔥🌿💧

In all seriousness though, this trio is Emmy and Ruby (siblings) and their best buddy Jeffy, heading out for their walk together.

I often walk three dogs at a time, so if you have three dogs, or your pups have a neighbour or friend they’d love to join them, I’m more than happy to take the whole crew out for a neighbourhood adventure.

Let the Pokémon adventure begin!

🐾 Local Walk Highlight: Koster Park

If you’ve ever wondered where I take the pups for a bit of extra sniffing, exploring and tail-wagging joy… let me introduce you to one of my favourite spots.

This week’s featured walk is Koster Park, located in Trinity Gardens, and has more character than your average suburban park. Most people don’t realise it holds a piece of Adelaide’s history. Back in the late 1800s, German migrant Johann Carl Koster ran Koster’s Premier Pottery right here, and the original red-brick, pencil-shaped kiln still stands today.

I love watching the dogs trot past it like they’re on some kind of archaeological expedition. From shady patches perfect for a moment’s rest, to wide paths for a solid stroll, the pups absolutely adore it.

Has your dog ever tried deer antlers? 🦌

Dogs need to chew - especially puppies! It helps with teething, mental stimulation, and keeping their teeth and gums healthy.

I often recommend deer antlers because they’re just like a bone but cruelty-free. Antlers are naturally shed, so no animal needs to be harmed. You can also use regular bones, but antlers are a more conscious choice.

They’re easy to find at pet stores or online - you dog will spend hours happily gnawing away!

I wanted to share with you one of my recent walks, in one of my favourite spots - Fifth Creek in Athelstone.

I was out walking 'Mouse', a 4-year-old German Shepherd belonging to one of my clients and along the way we spotted a family of Australian wood ducks and their ducklings.

The mum stayed at the front to lead, while the dad stayed at the back in the most vulnerable position to watch over the family.

It was very sweet, and it's spotting wildlife like this that makes Fifth Creek such a beautiful place to visit.

It’s no secret I love animals, but did you know I’ve also studied them?

I’ve completed two Certificates in Animal Studies, which means I don’t just love pets - I actually understand how to care for them properly.

A few of my favourite parts of my training:

🐕 Certificate 2 in Animal Studies: Learning how to feed and water animals correctly — including preparing proper, balanced food for different species.

🐍 Certificate 3 in Companion Animal Services: Providing basic care for common native animals and working in a general vet setting. I got hands-on experience with rats, mice, guinea pigs, sheep, horses, reptiles, dogs, cats, and even tiny marsupials like the potoroo (a mini kangaroo!).

Whether it’s caring for your pets at home or understanding what makes each animal unique, this knowledge helps me provide the best care possible.

Last week you met Maze - the ultimate social snuggler. Well, here is his brother, Phoenix, the independent adventurer and a true character in his own right!

A few things I’ve learnt about Phoe (as he's affectionately named) while pet sitting:

😺 He’s a loner and loves his own space - cuddles are rare, so consider them a privilege!
😺 Prefers the outdoors, but stays indoors more during winter. As the weather warms, he’s back to exploring.
😺 He enjoys finding hidden sleeping spots away from everyone.
😺 He’s a true explorer, sometimes losing his collar while out.
😺 He enjoys it when I make cat noises to him.

The most important thing about pet sitting (other than the obvious of making sure they have full bellies) — it’s about keeping them happy, safe, and cared for while their humans are away.

If you want someone who’ll get to know your pets as individuals (and maybe find a lost collar or two!), let me know!

Oliver's 'Proper Caring & Etiquette series' – #3

"Keeping your dog happy isn’t just about walks and cuddles, but providing good care is also about enrichment.

Some dogs will be left home during the day, or you might be working from home but not able to give them attention - this is where toys will help provide them with stimulation that doesn't require you.

They can focus their energy and time of trying to solve the puzzle of getting a treat - I recommend using toilet rolls or a tissue box and putting kibble and treats in them."

Did you know I also do house and pet sitting? 🐾

Recently I had the pleasure of looking after two adorable cats - and let’s just say, I learnt a lot about feline personalities!

Meet Maze (or Mazey, as she’s affectionately known) 😻

Here are a few fun things I discovered about her:
😺 She’s a friendly girl who prefers to spend about 90% of her time indoors
😺 Mazey is quite the lap cat… but only on her terms!
😺 She loves to follow her human around - always curious about what’s going on.
😺 At night, she’s happiest curled up on a warm human chest or stomach (if permitted!).
😺 Treats are her weakness
😺 Her favourite time of day? When her human sits on the sofa so she can snuggle in for hours.

Pet sitting isn’t just about keeping pets fed - it’s about getting to know their personalities, quirks, and what makes them feel at home.

If you ever need someone reliable to look after your pets (and your home) while you’re away, I’d love to help!

Oliver's 'Proper Caring & Etiquette series' – #2

"I know that people feel tempted to go up to dogs – but let them come to you. If they want attention, they will approach you and ask it quite easily."

It’s natural to want to pat a dog straight away, but not every dog is ready for that kind of interaction. Just like people, some dogs need time to feel safe and comfortable before saying hello. By letting them make the first move, you’re showing respect for their space and helping to build trust.

Mabel is one of my dogs and whenever I start to feel anxious, she somehow senses it right away. She’ll come over, check on me, and calm me down.

Anxiety can feel overwhelming, but having a dog who instinctively knows when you need comfort makes it a little easier to get through.

Dogs have an incredible ability to sense when we’re feeling anxious or unsettled. Their intuition and calm presence can bring comfort in moments when we need it most.

Our furry friends don’t just fill our hearts, they help ease our minds too.
