🦷 Dental Disease in Dogs: More Than Just Bad Breath! 🐶

Dental disease is one of the most common health problems we see in dogs and it often goes unnoticed until it’s advanced.

🔍 What’s happening here?

Plaque builds up on the teeth → hardens into tartar → bacteria move under the gumline → causing gingivitis, infection, pain, and tooth loss.

⚠️ Signs to watch for:

Bad breath (not “normal dog breath”!)

Yellow/brown tartar on teeth

Red, swollen, or bleeding gums

Dropping food or chewing on one side

Facial swelling or oral masses

Weight loss or behavior changes

🧠 Why it matters:
Dental disease doesn’t just stay in the mouth. Bacteria can enter the bloodstream and affect the heart, liver, and kidneys.

🛠️ Treatment & Prevention:

Professional dental cleaning under anesthesia

Tooth extractions when needed

Daily brushing (yes, dogs can learn!)

Dental chews and approved dental diets

Routine oral exams at vet visits

💙 Early care = less pain & lower cost.
If your dog has bad breath or visible tartar, it’s time for a dental check!

📞 Contact your vet clinic to schedule an oral exam today.

🐶 Let’s Talk: Cryptorchidism in Male Dogs! 🐾

Did you know that some male dogs are born with one or both testicles not descending into the sc***um? This condition is called cryptorchidism, and it’s more common than you might think!

🔍 What is Cryptorchidism?

➡️ A condition where one (unilateral) or both (bilateral) testicles remain in the abdomen or groin instead of the sc***um.

⚠️ Why is it a problem?

• Higher risk of testicular cancer
• Increased chance of testicular torsion (painful & life-threatening)
• The retained testicle does NOT function normally
• It is hereditary so affected dogs should not be bred

🐕 How is it diagnosed?

• Physical exam (usually by 6 months of age)
• Sometimes imaging (ultrasound) if the testicle can’t be felt

✂️ What’s the treatment?

✔️ Surgical neutering is strongly recommended
✔️ BOTH testicles are removed including the hidden one
✔️ Prevents future complications and improves long-term health

📌 Important reminder:

A dog may look normal if one testicle is down but the risk is still there!

If you’re unsure whether your dog’s testicles have fully descended, book a vet check 🩺
Early detection = better outcomes 💙

NeuterYourPet 🐾

P.S- the testicle on right was found in the abdomen (where it should not be!)

🪱 Hookworms in Dogs: What Every Pet Parent Should Know

That tiny oval shape you’re seeing under the microscope? 👀
👉 It’s a hookworm egg and while it looks small, hookworms can cause big problems for dogs.

🦠 What are hookworms?

Hookworms are intestinal parasites that attach to the lining of a dog’s gut and feed on blood. They’re especially dangerous for puppies, but adult dogs can be affected too.

🐶 How do dogs get hookworms?

Dogs can become infected by:
• Ingesting larvae from contaminated soil or f***s
• Larvae penetrating the skin (often through paws or belly)
• Nursing puppies getting them from their mother

⚠️ Warm, moist environments make hookworms thrive.

🚨 Signs to watch for

• Diarrhea (sometimes bloody)
• Pale gums
• Weight loss or poor growth
• Weakness or lethargy
• Anemia (can be life-threatening in puppies)

Some dogs may show no signs at all which is why testing matters!

🔬 How are hookworms diagnosed?

A simple f***l exam allows us to see hookworm eggs like the one shown here 🧫.

💊 Treatment & Prevention

✔️ Easily treated with deworming medication
✔️ Monthly parasite preventatives help protect your dog
✔️ Prompt f***s cleanup reduces environmental contamination

👉 Puppies need routine deworming, even if they seem healthy.

🩺 Why this matters

Hookworms don’t just affect dogs they can infect humans, causing skin irritation known as cutaneous larva migrans.

📞 If your dog has diarrhea, seems weak, or hasn’t had a recent f***l test, contact your vet today. Early detection saves lives ❤️

🐶 TVT in Dogs: What Pet Owners Should Know 🩺

Transmissible Venereal Tumor (TVT) is a contagious cancer seen most commonly in sexually active, unneutered dogs.

🔬 What is TVT?
TVT is a tumor made of living cancer cells that can be passed directly from dog to dog, usually during mating but also through licking, biting, or close contact.

📍 Where is it found?

Ge****ls (most common)

Nose

Mouth

Skin

⚠️ Signs to watch for:

Red, friable “cauliflower-like” mass

Bleeding or discharge from ge***al area

Swelling of the ge***al area

Nosebleeds or facial swelling (when nasal)

💉 Good news: TVT is treatable!

Most cases respond very well to chemotherapy, with an excellent prognosis when treated early.

🛡️ Prevention tips:

Spay & neuter your pets

Avoid roaming and unsupervised contact

Seek veterinary care early if you notice any abnormal masses

🐾 Early detection saves lives. If you notice anything unusual, don’t wait have your dog checked.

Independent personality

No behavioral or medical issues

Deserves a calm, safe, and caring home

This decision comes from a place of love, with Cartier’s best interest at heart. The goal is to find him a forever home where he can truly flourish 🏡💙

✨ **MEET THE TEAM – DR. SADE SWANSTON** 🐾🩺

Some people choose veterinary medicine… for Dr. Sade Swanston, it was always part of who she is.

Growing up, she spent many days watching her father, Dr. Gary Swanston, care for sick animals and nurse them back to health. Those moments shaped her future and inspired her to pursue the same noble profession.

Dr. Sade graduated from the University of the West Indies, Trinidad in May 2018 with her degree in Veterinary Medicine, and since then she has continued to prove that she is not only passionate about animals but deeply committed to their care.

She is known for being hard-working, dependable, and resilient, often stepping up in challenging situations with calm determination. Whether it’s a complicated case, a long day at the clinic, or learning a new skill, Dr. Sade is always pushing herself to improve so she can achieve the best possible outcomes for her patients

Her dedication, adaptability, and drive to keep growing make her an invaluable part of our team and our patients are better for it. 💙

Please say hi to Dr. Sade, a veterinarian who truly gives her all for the animals she serves. 🐶🐱🐾
