I’ve been open about the fact that I’m not selling right now. The truth is, it’s a difficult time for small businesses in the UAE, and the silence in the studio can be heavy.

But I just restocked my favorite Gütermann thread for the Lisbon Garden collection. People often ask why handmade isn’t “cheap,” and this box is part of the answer.

I refuse to use low-quality materials to save on costs. I’m honestly afraid that if I start taking shortcuts, I’ll lose the passion that made me start this journey in the first place. I’d rather have a quiet shop than put out work I’m not proud of.

For a “made-to-order” business, silence isn’t just a lack of noise—it’s a lack of purpose. It has been zero orders for a long time now.

When you are a one-woman show with no other job, when the orders stop, the heartbeat of the business stops with them.
I am here in my studio, surrounded by the 6 meters of organic fabric I chose so carefully—wisely limiting my risk to keep this collection unique and sustainable. But the needle isn’t moving. My hands are ready, my heart is in the work, but the world is elsewhere.

There is a surreal duality to life in Dubai right now. I feel profoundly protected within these borders; our leadership does the impossible to keep us secure while the regional news is so loud. 🛡️✨ But for a tiny business like mine, the global ripple is absolute.
